Skil - 10.8V Lithium Ion Drill/Driver - 2410-01: Skil 10.8v drill/driver
This tool packs power and versatility into a small package. Weighs in at just 1.8 pounds. (Yeah guys, I know, but to this woman THAT can make a difference.) The driver bits included are : PH1 (1) PH2 (2) PH3 SL6-8 (1) sl8-10 (1) S2 (1) H 1/8" (1) H 5/32" (1) T25 (1) The drill bits: 1/16 1/8 3/16 1/4 The base charging unit conveniently holds 6 bits. This little tool features a chuck that pulls up for bit changes (uses hex bits). This actually lets you quickly swap back and forth between drill and driver bits. (I usually will use a bigger drill when predrilling and then use this to drive screws or other fasteners.) The smaller size is really convenient since it can get into areas my larger drills never would. The smaller size also makes it easier to carry up and down ladders or from job to job. The drill features an electronic clutch with 10 settings to help in not stripping out a screw head (you know we all have) and to provide more torque in drilling. I've loaned this to both my electrician and plumber for doing work in the crawl space or attic and both loved it. (My electrician actually picked one up for his tool box.) The base of the unit conveniently displays the battery power. Simply depressing the trigger shows green, yellow or red. The battery charge seems to last and last - I've never exhausted it. The literature states it will drive over 200 screws on a single charge. A power light is also located in the base of the drill. According to the Amazon listing it is made by Bosch with the Skil brand. Yes it is listed on Amazon for the featured price if $85.20. Publ.Date : Mon, 09 Aug 2010 15:44:37 -0700
Titebond III Ultimate Wood Glue : "Old Reliable" wood glue
I have used this glue for years and I have never had a glue related failure. While not the cheapest glue out there, it is still quite affordable. While not available absolutely everywhere, you should still be able to find it easily. This glue has a decent open time, giving enough time to get things in postion. It sets fairly quickly, usually about 45 minutes when the clamps can come off(overnight for full cure). In my informal break testing, the glue joint did not fail, the wood came apart. I will continue to purchase this glue when I need the best glue available. I'll be using Elmer's Carpenters wood glue when I need a more affordable option. Publ.Date : Tue, 31 Aug 2010 01:04:50 -0700
Elmer's Probond Interior/Exterior Wood Glue: Good Wood Glue
Stumbled upon this glue while shopping in Walmart, since I was in need of glue and not wanting to make an extra trip to the lumber yard for a small purchase, I decided to give it a try. I was not disappointed. True to its labeling it does offer a quick tack and set up. Within about 30 minutes it will reach a point where it will stay together without further need of clamps. In my informal strength test, the glue joint did not separate, the wood broke apart. I have some setting out in the weather to see how well it will hold up along with some other manufacturers glues. I feel this glue is an even match for the other glues that are commonly available. It sells for over a dollar less at the 12 ounce glue bottle size, thereby making it very economical. RotoZip 120-Volt Spiral Saw Kit - RZ10-2300: Rotozip rotary saw
The Rotozip 2300 is a variable speed rotary saw that allows speeds from 15,000 to 30,000 rpm. This tool is generally considered a drywall cutting tool. It does a superior job of slicing through drywall for outlet and switch box installation. I had my electrician use it to install new switches in the kitchen when it was renovated. It took about 1/3 the time of cutting the holes by hand. (It created about 5x the dust.) He really liked it and said he'd be picking one up. The tool is light-weight and shaped to reduce user fatigue which I like a lot. The reason I got the tool was in renovating a bathroom. My home was built in the 80's. When it was built, the installation of a one piece fiberglass type tub and surround was put in the second bath. It was the 1980's lovely blue (UGH). I needed to rip this unit out. Since the unit was installed during the original house construction, the walls and floors were installed on top of the unit flanges. Hence the need for the Rotozip, since I wanted to minimize the amount of sheetrock repair. (I also need to reduce the size of the one piece unit to make it easier to get it out the door.) The Rotozip cut through the fiberglass unit like butter. I was able to slice the tub and surround into six or seven pieces and slice off the sheet rock above the flange by following the flange all the way around the unit. Made the final sheetrock repair so much easier. I found th unit to be easy to handle, more than powerful enough for what I needed to do and it only broke one bit. Firestorm 10 Inch 15 Amp Table Saw with Stand - FS210LS: Firestorm table saw
I have had this saw about 3 years. I use it for beginning woodworking. While this cannot compare to a Sawstop or other cabinet saw, it has certainly met my needs. It supports the use of stacked dado sets and the fence is easy to adjust and measures right on with the front measureing system. The only real con I have is the pullout outfeed support. It is just a couple rode this a housing on the back that tends to bind if not pulled out square. This may seem like a small thing but it is bothersome. In order to pull it out squarely you have to wald around the saw. Maybe I'm just lazy. I have it stored in my carport under a riding mower cover. No signs of rust or weather effects. Both the right and left side tables make it easy to support a variety of sleds and material lengths. The dust collector is a cloth bag that hangs below the saw. Works pretty well to contain most of the dust, though I do brush it off afer use and use a shop vac to really clean it out. Publ.Date : Sun, 25 Jul 2010 16:16:45 -0700
Craftsman 12 pc. Standard Impact Socket Set, 6 pt. Deep, 1/2 in. Drive : Craftsman Easy to Read Impact Sockets
I purchased two sets of Craftsman 1/2" drive deep well impact sockets from sears.com earlier this year, one in SAE and one in metric. Other than the fact that I got them on sale for 59.00 a set, I was first struck with the easy to read laser etched labeling on them. As I get older and my eyesight gets worse, I am definitely glad that Craftsman has incorporated this into the design. I passed my previous Craftsman impact sockets on to my son in-law and used that as an excuse to make the purchase of the new ones for myself. I love them. How can you not, with a lifetime replacement warranty? I had my last set for sixteen years and they still work like the first day I got them. I have never had one break, crack, or strip out but it is still nice to know that warranty is there. I also like the fact that they are made in the USA. It gives me a warm fuzzy feeling inside along with peace of mind. I'm looking forward to using my new set for my lifetime. I am also planning on replacing my 3/8" drive sets with the easy to read design too. That will make the old eyes happy. Not that I need an excuse to buy new tools, I just need an excuse to replace good tools. Publ.Date : Thu, 29 Jul 2010 21:38:10 -0700
Red Wing 406 work boots: worst boot for concrete
Durable work boot, but very uncomfortable. My feet kill me, knees and back hurt after work. Can't wait to get Timberlands again. I'll never buy Red Wing again! For such an expensive boot, they should have put some research, and technology in to them. Publ.Date : Wed, 25 Aug 2010 22:28:19 -0700
Veto Pro Pac XL Closed Top Tool Bag: Great Bag
My Pro Pac is holding up extremely well, after winning it in one of Tool-Ranks promotons, about a year ago. It goes with me to every job, large and small. I keep the tools that I need first on the job, for layout and measuring, plus a basic set of hand tools that I can cover my small jobs with. My bag usually sits outside in the sun all day, and for the year or so that I have had it, it has not faded one bit. This bag has survived being loaded in my truck with all the other assorted tools and material surprisingly well. This bag holds a surprising amount of tools in an organized manner, I can find my tools without having to empty half of them out on the ground to find that one tool buried in the bottom, this is a big time saver and does keep the job site much neater. The only thing that I can complain about with this bag, is that it does not have enough larger pockets in its back row. It has one larger pocket on each side, that can hold torpedo level sized tools. The rest of the row has screwdriver sized pockets. I needed a space for my larger Channellocks and had to put the handles in two different screwdriver pockets. If I was to customize this bag I would make one side with large pockets and the other side with screwdriver pockets. I have heard people complain about the weight of these tool bags, all I can say is that whatever you load with that many tools will be heavy, tools are heavy. This bag carries the weight well, both by its carrying handle or my preferred method, the shoulder strap. Would I buy another? Yes, although I would consider some of the other sizes as well. The XXL-F is looking very interesting. I did post some pictures on Tool-Rank, in the Photos section. http://www.tool-rank.com/index.php?option=com_community&view=photos&task=album&albumid=63&userid=109&Itemid=200095 Publ.Date : Tue, 01 Jun 2010 14:31:10 -0700
Ryobi 18 Volt One+ 5 1/2" Circular Saw with Laser P500: Great little saw
I got this saw to replace another trim saw when the battery died. Wow what a difference! This saw can handle any job my corded circular saw can. The batteries charge quickly and hold a charge well. Being part of the 1+ family is great since you can pick up other tools that will use the same battery and charger. This saw is heavier than I expected and I do find that continous use will wear me out (lol). Overall, this is a great little saw - I'm glad I got it. You should pick one up too.
